Recently, I was gifted “Kleancolor Nail Polish – Awesome Metallic Full Size Lacquer Lot of 12-pc.” The colors on the website looked bright, even if I was slightly worried about the “lacquer” in the name, because most lacquer I have used has been thin and not true to color, unless used over a white base.
I started with Metallic Mango and with the first stroke, I was hooked.
This color is pretty true to the bottle. Only one coat is needed. It dries fast. The smell isn’t as strong as many other polishes I have tried. It’s glossy enough to catch light, but matte enough that it doesn’t overwhelm. 24 hours in without a clear top coat, doing my usual routines (which includes a lot of hand washing) I noticed I was losing patches of polish, mostly in the middle of the nail. The polish removed easily with regular strength nail polish remover without staining the nail bed. It does, however, leave behind a bit of a glittery residue which removes quickly with a little extra scrubbing.
Next up, Metallic Green. Be sure to get a good amount on the brush and spread it evenly, or you’ll end up with weird patches that will require a second coat of polish to fix.
This one has a grainier texture to it, and takes longer to dry. The graininess does fade as it dries, so that’s a plus. Also on the plus side, the color is true (and so pretty!). 48 hours (and several harsh chemicals later) and the polish has been all but stripped from my nails. It was fun while it lasted.
Next up is Metallic Aqua! This beautiful color really lifted my spirits after spending a few days feeling a bit under the weather.
This is another one that went on easily and smoothly, requiring only one coat. It dried super fast, and has that glossy shine that I have come to expect from these polishes. It is also very true to bottle color. However, less than 24 hours (and a bucket of bleach) later, the polish was stripped from my nails in chunks. It was fun while it lasted. As seems to be the case with most blue things, there was some staining of my nail beds and fingers.
Next in line is a color I love to hate. Metallic Pink.
This is the first color is that actually slightly lighter than the bottle. Once again, this brand goes on smooth with a glossy finish, and only requires 1 coat. It held out for just over 48 hours. I woke up and had “lost” some polish in my sleep. There was, again, some staining of the nail bed.
Next I tried Metallic Yellow. More of a yellow gold than true yellow (or gold).
Shiny! This one, like the green, reminds me that it is a lacquer. Be careful with those brush strokes or you’ll miss a spot and have to add extra coats for coverage. Dries quickly and smoothly, but loses a bit of the gloss. It lasted barely 24 hours for me. Maybe I just lead a hard life? Who knows.
Next in line was a shade listed as Metallic Fuchsia.
It’s prettier than it appears in the bottle. It also just looks purple to me, but what do I know? It has the same smooth and shiny finish I have come to expect from this brand. Same lasting strength–24 hours–as well.
Metallic White was a bit of a disappointment.
Like many metallic polishes, the white appears to be liquid glitter. 2 coats gave it a fuller color, but it took on a clumpy appearance even though my nails were still smooth, and it was nowhere near as bright as the bottle made it seem. The appearance unsettled me, and I didn’t leave the polish on long enough to make any in depth observations. It can probably be layered over another color for a frosted look.
And here is my all-time favorite color. Black. Specifically, Metallic Black.
It’s beautiful. Seriously. When applying the polish, the color was glossy, smooth, and the metallic shine/glitter made it look like a starry night sky. I kind of felt as if I was wearing the universe on my fingers. I got a full 48 hours of wear with this shade, but that may have been because I was sick. Hmm.
And then another winner popped out of the box! Metallic Red
which is so much prettier in real life than in pictures or in the bottle. Sadly, I got only about 16-18 hours of wear before I noticed chips.
And here is another gorgeous shade: Metallic Sapphire
Beautiful shine, a little lighter than the bottle indicates, and full coverage with minimal strokes. 24 hours of wear gave me chips but nothing a touch-up wouldn’t cover.
Metallic Purple was much like the blue
a bit lighter than the bottle indicated but a nice, robust shade. Sadly, I was only able to wear it for about 8 hours. (Full disclosure: the topical muscle pain cream I used leached the color from my nails. I should probably not use that cream anymore..)
And the final color in the set – Metallic Orange. Lovely color, quick drying. I got a full 24 hours of wear before I noticed chips.
Overall? The colors are lovely, but invest in a good top coat to make them last longer on your nails. If you’re someone who constantly changes nail colors to match moods or clothing, this set is a must have. And at just under $11 (at the time of this posting), you’re paying less than $1 per bottle, so it’s cost effective.
